  1. So what do you think? Do you think these restaurants benefit from being awarded the rising star? Or do you feel that it puts additional pressure on them to perform? Do you think customers really take notice of what this means?

  2. Michelin rising star is good concept but there are many contradiction to it. when a restaurant is awarded a star it has a pressure of maintaining standards though they are serving great food. working under pressure may affect the food quality. There are many such restaurants which serves good food but have not been recognised yet. this may help the customer to understand restaurant's service, food quality etc.It can get confusing for many customers when restaurant get rising stars and then not been awarded the Michelin.
    thank you.

  3. A Michelin star restaurant is itself is an identity in the world of hospitality. for a young amateur restaurant owner getting a one rising star can be very much motivating but on the other hand when a well to do restaurant owner having two rising stars in a year and all of a sudden the very next year gets one rising star can make him run out of confidence. This can lead to closure of the restaurant or sacking of employees.
From customers point of view a guest always wants to try something new but at the same time he may be loyal to one of the restaurants. So if a new restaurant gets one star he would go out and try food there. But if his favorite restaurant slips from two stars to one stars where he was loyal, he might not turn up again thinking they have reduced their standards.
So i believe they should continue their star rating system but keeping some factors of conditions in mind and help them creating good standards.

  4. Ok...Sameera,Rohit,Sagar, remember that any restaurant awarded an actual Michelin star must continue to maintain its standards in order to keep it so that pressure is always there. How do you think this would affect a restaurant that has been awarded a rising star? Do you think that this could be used in a positive way? Do you think that those restaurants that have been nominated know what else they must do in order to receive a star?

  5. A Michelin star restaurant is a good concept to encourage hoteliers and to build a good image in customer's eye.Having rising star to restaurants may sometimes headache for their owners because they have to maintain those standards and if they fail to do that, they might loose their stars next year.We think it is kind of demotivation to owners.
    thank you.

  6. Michelin rising star plays crucial role from hotel`s point of view because they want to extend and expand the sector. For expanding their business, with the help of work pressure & team work, they can try their best to give highly personalized & quality service to their guest. At the same time, hotel also look forward towards new development of hygiene & sanitation policies.Chefs of hotels also have to focus on the aunthecation of menus by using high quality ingredients & preparation skills. On the other hand customers are not beneficial by rising stars because they are unaware about the categorization policies of hotel`s star rating system. The guest is least concerned about these policies, he just expects that he should get leisure stay & homely treatment for which he pays.

  7. Wow! Saurabh, Mehul, and Nilesh....first things first.....one rising star can only be awarded to a restaurant. This means that the restaurant has the possibility to get one Michelin star for its restaurant. It has happened in the past that a restaurant that had 1-3 stars lost their status. Some have reflected on it and have made the changes to regain their status, others have decided that the pressure was not worth it and have done what they consider to be appropriate for their restaurant regardless of what Michelin thought and there have been a few extreme cases where the chefs have actually committed suicide because they lost their stars.
In regards to what customers think, you have made some valid points. How do you think that customers would use this information? Would they solely rely on what is said about these restauarnts or would they be willing to go in and make up ther own mind about the experience of eating there?
PS....Be a bit more positive about the outcomes of losing a star!!! A restaurant does not have to close down or sack their employees!! They need to evaluate what went wrong and make the necessary changes. The only difficulty is that there are no concrete guidelines to refer to and those who award the stars will not tell them what they must do specifically to obtain one.

  8. thankyou for your response mam. we agree to this point that the pressure comes along with the star and expectations soar but it is upto the internal customers how they react to such a situation and not take it in a mild way infact act towards betterment and keeping up of the image and grades.
this could be used in a positive way as it is a great motivation and people in today's world opt for competition which is healthy for their growths.
restaurants surely know their capacities and after stars being awarded to them they strive hard to rise standards and put their best feet forward. they employ the best staff try new techniques everything they can just to get better and win the hearts in market.

  9. Michellin stars are the well known rating system which allows the Chef's or the restaurants to be competitive and good enough for gaining the publicity or capturing the market. Yes it really benefits the restaurants to make a Mark in the outer world because star rating really shows the world what quality standards they got to have that star behind it. It puts an pressure on the Chef's to concentrate on the stars or rather see what the existing system or new happenings are demanding them to stand unique in this race. Yeah customers are often looking for the quality standards for what they pay for having the best pleasure, so they are searching for the restaurants who have stamped their image in this existing system.

  10. Rahul,Abhijit,Gaurav...gentlemen you missed the point. The article was about “rising stars” and whether or not this new category was beneficial for these restaurants or is this a hindrance instead? How do customers respond to these “rising star” restaurants? Read the question properly! Looking forward to a response from your group....and please correct your spelling mistakes!

  11. Mam i totally agree what you just said. But if a restaurant loses its star and owner stills wants to be in the game he might reduce the prices in menu to attract customers. If he wants to play dirt he might just sack a few employees instead of shutting the entire restaurant in one go. Or he might use cheap resources of food which may not meet health standards of Uk restaurants.

Please ensure that you pay particular attention to your spelling and grammar.

  13. Yogesh, Sudhir, Girish.....You have an overall understanding of what it can entail and what it can mean to those who have been awarded a “rising star”. Do you think that the majority of customers know what these restaurants offer over and above others? Do you think that most people are aware of what standards these restaurants must meet in order to be awarded a star? How do you think a restaurant that has been named in this new category can use this in order to bring more recognition to their restaurant?

  14. According to me Michelin Rising Star is a good concept for the restaurant owners to render better services as it creates pressure on them to provide better services which will satisfy the customers needs and leads the organisation towards the star rating. If the restaurant is star rating, the customers are eager to receive the services provided by the organisation as their expectations are high inconcern with the services provided to them.
If the organisation wants to expand their business they try their best to give highly personalized & quality services to their guest.
If a particular restaurant is awarded with the rising star they also gets encouraged and try to render better and better services to maintain their reputation in the Industry as they don't want to loose the customers and the star awarded to them.

  15. Well, I think Michelin Star is a very good concept. As this concept gives ground to all the competitors in the market to run or rather win in the race. If this is the competition then people working to grab this opportunity will have to take hard efforts. Of course these restaurants will benefit from being awarded the rising star. Because this is something like boasting energy for them or you can say they are more than half of their way to win. This concept gives the restaurant owner indication that where they stand in the market and how well they can perform to achieve the title of Michelin star. Yes, there is pressure to perform but all team members have their goal in front of them then the efforts will not go waste. In today’s world people are so quality and brand conscious that they will definitely notice what Michelin star is. And which customer will not feel to have services from worldwide awarded or best known Michelin star restaurant.

  17. As every organisation has some criteria for its grading and rating system to achive thier proper standards and grades,Michelin star is a platform for restaurants by which they can adopt gerat standards for upgrading and discuss the market evaluations by which they can introduce why they are good among the all.with the help of michelin star rating system restaurants are trying to maintain thier standards as per the trendz going on that means the current issues.customers also expect the type of service from restaurant as per thier ratings.for getting awarded from michelin star restaurants keep on tryng to stand one step ahed as compare to thier compititor in the market.

  18. I believe in the concept of 'Seeing is Believing', Michelin star rating system is what one can believe. According to the Michelin star rating system for every hotelier its a proud to get one, yes there is pressure and efforts to put in however for a guest its very important to know the product and the hygiene value for which he is paying. There are few restaurants to have achieved the Michelin stars but unfortunately they didn't make an effort to keep up to the good work so they lost it.Its very hard to get one however very easy to loose, it also create an a negative impression and always have an threat in losing loyal guest as a result either closure of business or hard time to get the reputation back, because its not a trend but an curiosity to find in every human being to study the pattern of any restaurant or an hotel before they experience one.

  19. Hi Raj,

You focussed soley on the service...what about knowing that the food is of a certain standard above the rest? Refer to your notes about the Michelin stars and what it takes to achieve one! Please watch your spelling...you used American spelling instead of UK!

  20. Hi Smita,

Having read your comments, do you think customers would change their opinions of a rising star restaurant if after two years they do not get a Michelin star? Would they think that it was no longer a good place to go eat or do you think that tehy would still go there?

  21. Again, Mubeen a Michelin star is not given to restaurant solely for it service. The idea of this article is to make you think about whether or not it is a good idea to award "rising stars" to restaurants that are alomost at the level of Michelin standards....do you think it is beneficial to the restaurant, to the customers? Why?

  22. Hi Sagar,

Firstly...be more mindful of your spelling! Use spell check to ensure taht your words are correctly spelled! In regards to your comments, yes you make some good points. But both you and Mubeen did not comment on whether or not this could be helpful for the restaurant or are there any disadvanatges to receiving a "rising star"? What could some of the disadvantages be?

  23. Good morning Nishtha,

What effect do you think it would have if a restaurant does not achieve a Michelin star after two years of being awarded a Rising Star? What could the consequences be? Could this be a postive thing? What do you think?
